Dumbing Down a Resume

Dumbing Down a Resume

There is an interesting article on CBC today asking the question of whether job seekers should dumb down their resume to get work. The premise is that people who are overqualified are not getting hired.

The reason employers are not interested in hiring overqualified employees is that they are afraid the person will become unsatisfied quickly and leave. So, what to do if you really need the job or actually really want the position?

Just like any position I say tailor your resume. Leaving extra information out is not a big deal (obviously adding extra fabricated information is another thing all together and not acceptable). You should be tailoring your resume for every position. So although they are saying "dumbing down" I don't see it that way. If you really want a position then it's up to you to sell what you have that fits the position. As long as you have achieved everything you put on your resume then that would be appropriate.
