Employment Trends 2009

Employment Trends: What's Really Happening in the Job Market?

Have you been curious about what the in demand jobs are? Have your asked the question, where should I focus? Would it be worth my while to go back to school? Where do I get current facts?

While aptitude tests and personal assessments have their place in finding out where your strengths are, you don't want to make a leap without knowing whether there is a demand. Before you dedicate your time and energy a little reasearch into trends in the market you are considering is a good idea.

A good resource that you can go directly to is statistics canada website www.statcan.gc.ca. They present key trends in Canada's job market and have stats on many topics that might be of interest. This is a good way to get the facts on what's going on without relying on bias that might be included on news stories using the statistics to state their point. The have a report "The Canadian Labour Market at a Glance" which summarized the findings.

There is also a news feed on the newest Stats Canada findings on the site. One area I found interesting was the "daily" page which includes all the newly released stats each day so that you can see what the most up to date statistics are first hand - before they reach the newspaper.
